My monthly Haint Bluesletter is an invitation into my home. All the details are below. Come on in and sit for a spell.
First of all, why the backwards welcome mat? Well, I’ll tell you all about that in January, the threshold of the new year. Until then, I have other things to discuss, such as this invitation. Let's start with the house.
As a subscriber to my Haint Bluesletter, we’ll wander through the rooms and spaces of my little Georgia home where we’ll talk about storytelling, folklore, books, film, tarot, astrology, and more. Here’s the plan.
We’ll start out with a little drink. And not your everyday lemonade or tea. If it’s cold out, I’ll whip-up something to warm our bones from the inside out. If it’s a scorcher, I’ll mix something refreshing, something to help loosin’ up our limbs until we don’t even care what the weather’s doing. No matter what I’m makin’, you better believe I’ll have a story to share about it.
I'll shuffle my cards and pull one (or a few) to help get us inspired. Sometimes we’ll tell the story we see in a single card, other times we’ll craft a spread, but every time we’ll discuss lessons we can learn.
For an additional layer of insight, we’ll look at what’s happening in the stars...and we’re not talkin’ your Granny’s horoscopes either. We’re going to dive deeper and get creative. The cards I’ll be using are my own, Mystic Storyteller Tarot. In fact, the ones pictured above are among my favorites in the deck... they include my hubby, my two sons, my two pitties, and little ol’ me.
Now, you haven’t been invited into a home in the South without hearing the phrase “long story short.” And, boy, will I have one.
I’ll try to keep it short, because I know you’re busy, but every time you come over, I’ll have a story to share. Sometimes it’ll start at the drink cart and mosey through the entire visit, twisting and turning as we go. Sometimes I might even spill a little tea about what I’m writing—or maybe even a personal story I shouldn’t tell but just can’t help myself.
Get ready because every time we meet, I’m sure to launch myself down a rabbit hole and share with you something I found that kept me up all night. Don’t worry, I won’t lose you. You’ll hear the sound of my voice and my footfalls. Now, if you hear more than one voice or someone else’s footsteps while we’re down there, RUN.
Just don’t spill your beverage. Never mind the carpet, I do hate wasting a good drink.
As we wrap-up our visit, be prepared for a good ol’ Southern goodbye. That’s when I’ll reward your curiosity with a gift to take with you as you leave. Sometimes it’ll be something I pulled directly from one of my shelves, other times your gift will be something I designed especially for your visit.
